Smitha Srinivasan

It is said that out of all of nature’s creations, what places human beings a notch above the rest is their ability to imbibe and enjoy the essence of art and culture. The Narthan Academy of Dance and Music (NADAM), has been in pursuit of reaching this culture to
patrons in India and around the world for over 2 decades now. Smitha Srinivasan, a Bangalore-based solo Kathak performer and teacher who has been training under the able tutelage of renowned Kathak exponents Nandini K Mehta and K Murali Mohan at NADAM for the past 15 years. She has also attended workshops conducted by Pt Birju Maharaj, Gurus Maulik Shah and Ishira Parikh, Guru Arjun Mishra, Guru Rani Khannam and Guru Bragha Bessel. A graded artiste of the Doordarshan, Bangalore, Smitha is also empanelled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. Smitha has been a NADAM company dancer since NADAM’s inception. She has travelled to cities across India and the world with NADAM and other groups, giving performances and conduction workshops. Some of her performances include a performance at the Konark Dance Festival, a highly acclaimed 14-day tour of Europe organized by The Art of Living, the Andaman Festival and a 3-month tour of the United States with NADAM. Besides being a dancer, Smitha is a management professional with an MBA degree. She works as a professional outbound training instructor. Her vocations include
mountaineering and she holds a Limca book of record for her feat along with her mother. Also, in Feb 2011, She completed a 3000 kms cycle rally with a team of 15 women from Kolkata to Kanyakumari.


Arpita Banerjee, who holds a M.A and B.Ed in Kathak, is a fine and experienced Kathak exponent  Arpita has been associated with NADAM since 2007 as a student and company dancer. . Arpita is an empanelled artist of ICCR, Govt. Of India. She is invited from different universities like Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai ; Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh etc every year as an examiner . She runs her own institution " Riyaaz Dance Studio", where she trains students in Kathak by conducting regular classes and conducts workshops by inviting eminent Kathak artists. Arpita has performed extensively in India and abroad at all the major Dance Festivals with the NADAM ensemble.


Poorna Acharya is practicing Kathak- an Indian classical dance form, for  more than 15 years. She has completed her Vidwat exam in Kathak  & has performed at all the prestigious festivals in India, USA, Canada , Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangkok and Kazakhstan with her Gurus Sri Murali Mohan & Nandini Mehta. She is also  a soloist and has recently performed at  Mahatma Gandhi University, Mauritius  and  conducted  a Kathak workshop for the students. Poorna runs her own Dance Institute - " Alankrtha" , in Bangalore where she trains students. 


Mitha Vinay is one of the young and talented Kathak dancers from Hyderabad. She has been trained in Kathak for more than 15 years, under the able tutelage of Guru Nandini K. Mehta and Guru K Murali Mohan at  NADAM, Bangalore. She has given innumerable performances at the most prestigious platforms across India and abroad along with the NADAM ensemble. Her performances are a combination of grace and rhythm. She marks her performances with high energy and a youthful charm, winning appreciations and encomiums from the audience and critics alike.

Chethana Chandrappa

Chethana initially learnt Kathak from Mrs. Preethi  Vasavada for 5 years and later continued her training at NADAM under the guidance of my Gurus Sri. Murali Mohan Kalvakalva & Ms. Nandini Mehta.Chethana has been performing with NADAM ensemble since 5 years and has given shows in India, USA, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Vietnam & Thailand as part of the NADAM ensemble.

Chethana is a Senior software engineer at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. 


Sowmya Ravi began her journey in dance at the young age of 7, having had her initial training in the style of Bharatanatyam, under Gurus Karnataka Kalashree Sri Kiran Subramanyam and Smt Sandhya Kiran. She went on to pursue Kathak, under Gurus Nandini K Mehta and K Murali Mohan, at the Narthan Academy of Dance and Music (NADAM) and has been intensively learning the nuances of Kathak for the last 9 years. Sowmya has extensively performed as a part of the NADAM ensemble, at various prestigious festivals both in India and abroad.

To add to her creative perspective, Sowmya has learnt Carnatic Vocal under Guru Smt.Neela Ramanujam for a period of 5 years, and has obtained a distinction in the Music Junior exam, conducted by Karnataka Secondary Education Board.

A bright student academically, Sowmya is currently pursuing her B.D.S degree at the Faculty of Dental Sciences, M S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, while she hopes to make a
mark for herself in the field of Kathak.

Malavika Sreepada

Malavika started her initial training in Kathak at the age of eleven years under Guru Smt.Chitra Venugopal at Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan,Bangalore where she earned a Junior diploma in Kathak and Choreography. After six years, she continued her further training under Gurus Nandini Mehta and K Murali Mohan and became a  part of the NADAM ensemble.

Malavika has performed extensively with NADAM at important cultural centres in India and abroad. She has also completed her Junior exam in Kathak from Karnataka Secondary Education Board.

Malavika has completed her Masters in Law and is a practicing Advocate by profession.


Jinal  started  learning Kathak at a tender age of 5 under Gurus Nandini K Mehta and K Murali Mohan, at the Narthan Academy of Dance and Music (NADAM).A talented and graceful dancer, she has been training in  Kathak for the last 10 years.
Jinal has  performed as a part of the NADAM ensemble, at various prestigious festivals both in India and abroad. She is also well-versed with the Folk Forms of Gujarat and conducts workshops as well. 
To add a feather to her cap, Jinal who has just turned 16, has become a sought after dance choreographer and has been choreographing  for weddings and corporate events since 2 years.  
Academically Jinal  is currently pursuing her BBA degree at Mount Carmel college.


Thanvi Upadhyaya has been dancing since the  age of 8 years old . She began her initial training in Bharatanatyam under Guru Sridhar and Anuradha Sridhar. Later, she started learning Kathak under Guru Nandini Mehta and K Murali Mohan , at Narthan Academy for Dance and Music ( NADAM)for almost 7 years.

Thanvi has performed extensively along with the Nadam ensemble at various festivals both in India and abroad.
 Thanvi is also learning Western Ballet under  Guru Ms Yana Lewis , at Yana Lewis Academy.Apart from these , she is also well versed in other  dance forms like contemporary and salsa.
Thanvi  is  currently pursuing her Bcom honours degree at Christ University , while she hopes to make a mark for herself in the field of Kathak.


 Vidhya began her training in Kathak  at NADAM under the able guidance and tutelage of Gurus Nandini K Mehta and K Murali Mohan, in 2013. She has been fortunate to attend workshops by exponents like Guru Vidha Lal, Guru Shama Bhate, Guru Bragha Bessell and Guru Harish Gangani. Her passion for dance triggered her to learn Indian folk forms as well.  She has been a part of all NADAM performance since her debut touring India and abroad as a company dancer. She has also been a part of the administrative team at NADAM.  

To add to her inclination towards art, Vidhya has received training in Carnatic music under Guru Smt.Latha Nadig. She cleared the junior level examination in Carnatic vocal conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Board, with distinction, and has also received training to clear the senior level. An art lover by nature, she has had stints of acting in award winning regional short films. She was also featured in an album by Sachin Shankor Mannath, a student of Oscar winning music composer A.R.Rahman’s K.M Music Conservatory, Chennai, the album being composed as a tribute to the legendary Classical composer Swati Tirunal Rama Verma for his 200th birth anniversary. She also had the fortune to work with veteran art-director and theatre person Padmashri M.S. Sathyu in his play "Gul-e-Bakavali", in which she played the titular role.


Harshini was initiated into dance when she was 5 years old and has  been very passionate about it ever since. She has completed her Senior Diploma in Kathak from the  Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bangalore under Guru Chitra Venugopal and Guru Bharathi Vittal and is currently  undergoing training from Gurus Nandini Mehta & Murali Mohan.
Harshini has performed at many prestigious Festival in India and abroad along  with the NADAM ensemble.
 Harshini is pursuing her  second year product design student at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore.
